DUBAI, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Dubai-based low-cost airline flydubai said here on Wednesday in a statement that it will launch daily flights to Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport from Nov. 29, marking the first UAE carrier to this airport.

Flydubai's new service will increase the carrier's frequency to the Russian capital to double the existing daily service to Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport.

Ghaith Al-Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said "the launch of our new daily flights to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport is based on the increase in demand for more affordable and reliable direct links to the UAE and beyond."

The airline said it recorded a 45-percent year-on-year growth in passenger amount to Russia in the first half of 2017.

Flydubai first started operating flights to Moscow in 2014 and has grown its network in Russia to 11 destinations.

Early this year, the UAE granted citizens of the Russian Federation entry visa on arrival valid for 30 days for the first time, renewable one time only for another 30 days.

This change of the Emirati visa policy has contributed to the increase in passenger number from Russia, flyduybai said quoting reports by Dubai Airports.
