BISHKEK, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Members of the Kyrgyz parliament have elected a new speaker among two candidates, the press service of the parliament said Wednesday.
MP Dastanbek Zhumabekov, 41, has been elected as speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament. He was nominated by the Kyrgyzstan parliamentary faction and the coalition of the parliamentary majority.
The other candidate, MP Ishak Masaliev, was nominated by the Onuguu-Progress parliamentary faction.
The previous speaker, Chynybai Tursunbekov, announced his resignation on Wednesday morning at a parliamentary session.
