NEW DELHI, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party Wednesday said it will observe Nov. 8 as "anti- black money" day throughout the country.

The announcement was made by India's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi.

According to Jaitley the move is aimed at highlighting anti graft steps taken by the federal government.

"Last year on 8th November Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced demonetization which was anti black money drive," Jaitley told reporters.

An amalgamation of 18 opposition parties including the Congress, Trinamool and the Left have decided to observe Nov. 8 as a "black day" with protests and rallies in different states to highlight the cash crunch and economic slowdown that followed demonetization.

Indian prime minister's sudden decision last year to withdraw currency notes of 500 and 1,000 Indian rupees from India's financial system triggered panic among people who queued outside banks and ATMs to exchange the banned currency notes and withdraw cash.

The move took 86 percent of the currency out of circulation from India.

Analysts blame the demonetization for the decline in GDP in the fourth quarter of 2016-17.
