TOKYO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday and the benchmark Nikkei's record rally was brought to an end as investors opted to secure profits.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 97.55 points, or 0.45 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,707.62, ending its 16 day winning streak.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 5.49 points, or 0.31 percent, to finish at 1,751.43.
Pharmaceutical, electric and power, and real estate-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
