Indonesia aims to attract more tourists from Singapore via tour selling event

JAKARTA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is aiming to tap more tourists from neighboring country of Singapore by taking part in the upcoming Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB) Asia slated from Wednesday to Friday this week, a senior official with the tourism ministry said.

Southeast Asia Market Development Assistant Deputy Minister Rizki Handayani said that Indonesia would send large mission in the Business-to-Business event organized by Messe Berlin (Singapore), comprised of at least 90 representatives of tour agencies, regional governments and hotel managements.

"We would be presenting our utmost in the ITB Asia as it has been listed as part of our prioritized tour selling events," she said in a statement.

The event would gather sellers and buyers in tourism industry that include MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibition), leisure and corporate travel markets as well.

Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said the upcoming ITB Asia would give Indonesia more opportunities to promote its tourism.

Singapore has been supplying significant number of tourists to Indonesia with 1.8 million tourists recorded in 2016, higher than 1.5 million in 2015.

The ministry recorded that the number of Singaporean tourists visited Indonesia in the first eight months this year have reached 939,231.
