RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A student burned down a school building in northern Brazil to revenge being reprimanded for lateness by a teacher, local news site G1 said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening in the small town of Feijo in Acre state. As the fire occurred during the weekend, no one was injured.

The 13-year-old eighth-grade student had assistance from an adult, who was identified as 19-year-old Carlos da Luz Ribeiro. The name of the minor was not disclosed in accordance with Brazilian law.

According to G1, the building of the Vicente Brito de Sousa State School was burned to the ground, and all school facilities and food supplies were completely destroyed. Some 100 students were left without classes.

The incident took place less than a week after another noteworthy episode of violence in Brazilian schools, which had a much more tragic ending: a 14-year-old boy, armed with the gun of his mother, a police officer, shot at several of his classmates in Goiania, midwestern Brazil. Two 14-year-old boys died and four other teens were injured.
