LONDON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.36 percent, or 26.70 points, to close at 7,542.87 points.
Pearson, a multinational publishing and education company, soared 3.00 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. ITV and International Consolidated Airlines Group increased by 3.00 percent and 2.68 percent, respectively.
The global specialty biopharmaceutical company Shire was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 3.11 percent.
The multinational mining and metals company Rio Tinto dropped 2.98 percent. Reckitt Benckiser Group, a British health, hygiene and home products producer, fell 2.53 percent. Enditem
