10,000 runners compete in Guang'an "Redrun" Marathon

CHENGDU, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 10,000 runners competed in Guang'an "Redrun" Marathon, which was held in Deng Xiaoping's hometown on Sunday.

34-year-old Kenyan runner William Chebon Chebor took the title with a record-setting time of 2:14:00, slicing over 2 minutes from the course record. Mesfin Hailu Lemma of Ethiopia trailed in 2:17:24, while Robert Wambua Mbithi of Kenya finished third in 2:18:11.

"Rain troubled a little," said Chebor, "I tried my best but still could not break my personal best. Except the weather, everything was perfect."

In the women's race, Meskerem Abera Hunde claimed the title in 2:42:33. Kenya's Lydia Chepleting Rotich finished second in 2:49:12. Gladys Jerotich Kibiwot was third in 2:54:20.

"Guang'an is a beautiful city and is suitable for running. I came here for the victory and I am glad to accomplish the goal." said Hunde.

Chinese runners performed well in the women's half marathon. Zhang Yu, Liu Lu and Lan Xia swept the top three positions.
