DOHA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Qatar has announced that its cargo movement has seen remarkable increase since the June-5 blockade, local media reported Saturday.

The cargo movement has risen 247 percent in June this year compared with June last year, said Qatar Ports Management Authority (Mwani Qatar) in a statement.

Mwani Qatar said that ports in Qatar have seen strong surge in the movement of general cargo, containers, livestock and aggregates, with measures taken in order to ensure food supplies for the residents.

Qatar has inaugurated a number of new direct shipping lines between Hamad port and a number of ports in the region and beyond, such as Oman, Turkey, India and China.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar and closed land, air and sea passage to all vessels and vehicles coming from or going to Qatar, accusing it by supporting "terrorist" groups in the region, charges that was denied by Doha.
