MANAMA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain's government on Friday welcomed the new U.S. strategy announced by President Donald Trump in which he accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and condemned it as a "fanatical regime."

Trump in his speech said his policy is based on a clear-eyed assessment of the Iranian dictatorship and its continuing aggression in the Middle East and all around the world.

He said the Iran nuclear deal was one of the worst decisions taken by the U.S. that led to the gaining of 100 billion U.S. dollars by the Iranian government that could use to fund terrorism.

Trump even announced to impose tough sanctions on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) by authorizing the Treasury Department to take actions against the IRGC officials, agents and affiliates.

"Bahrain welcomes the new U.S. strategy in which President Donald Trump stressed that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism and new steps to deal with Iranian nuclear agreement as well as imposing sanctions on the IRGC," said a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

The ministry said Bahrain supports U.S. efforts to prevent Iran's nuclear ambition and supplying of weapons to militant groups in the region.

"The new U.S. position will help combat terrorism and help make our region and the world more stable," the statement noted. "Bahrain is one of the countries that is most affected because of the IRGC policy that aims to undermine the security and support extremist ideas that cannot be tolerated."

Bahrain cut all diplomatic ties with Iran in January last year and suspended all the flights following Iran's alleged continuous interference in internal affairs.
