NAIROBI, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenyan media outlets on Friday.

-- A major confrontation between the police and Opposition supporters is expected Friday after the government banned protests in three major cities.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said he had banned the demonstrations from the city centers in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa to protect Kenyans and their property, but opposition leaders on Thursday vowed not to budge, saying demonstrating and picketing is their constitutional right. There has been disruption of businesses and looting during the demos. (The Standard)

-- President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to sign the controversial election amendment laws after the Senate on Thursday adopted them. The laws are among reasons why the Opposition has taken to the streets and boycotted the elections. (The Star)
