NEW DELHI, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday defended its chief Amit Shah's son Jay Amit Shah after he was accused of corruption by a news portal.

In an article, The Wire has alleged that a company owned by Jay Amit Shah, a businessman based in the western state of Gujarat, grew after his father's elevation as BJP president.

According to the portal, the company's turnover shot up by 16,000 times after Jay Amit Shah's father became BJP chief and the party won the general elections in 2014.

But Jay Amit Shah and the BJP have refuted the allegations.

Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal held a media meet in Delhi Monday, where he defended Jay Amit Shah and said the latter would sue The Wire for one billion rupees (15.3 million U.S. dollars).

However, India's main opposition National Congress Party has demanded a probe into the allegations levelled by the portal.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the row suggests that the Shahs have looted the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved to a "partner in crime".

However, BJP leader and a Minister in Uttar Pradesh state, Sidharth Nath Singh, was quick to hit back at Gandhi. "Rahul Gandhi should step out of his diapers," he told the media.

The portal has said that it stands by its report.
