BRUSSELS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The European Police Office (Europol) on Friday said it has coordinated a joint investigation targeting the illegal online weapons trade, leading to one main suspect arrested.
According to Europol's statement, a 24-year-old Spanish national was arrested by the Spanish police who sold firearms through AlphaBay, the biggest Darknet marketplace, which has been taken down by U.S. authorities.
The suspect was one of the largest firearms vendors on the Darknet. He had sent firearms and ammunition to more than 30 different buyers in 11 countries.
During the operation, six of the buyers were also arrested with the help of Europol and law enforcement and customs authorities in Cyprus, Germany, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
More than 30 firearms were seized, together with a large amount of ammunition.
Two of the buyers have been involved in murders and another one has committed suicide with the purchased handgun, Europol said.
