KIEV, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least one Ukrainian National Guard serviceman was killed and seven others were injured on Thursday in a road accident outside capital Kiev, authorities said.
The accident occurred early in the day on the Kiev-Vyshgorod Highway, some 20 km north of the capital, when the National Guard vehicle collided with a bus, the military prosecutor's office said in a statement.
One serviceman was confirmed killed on the spot while seven other soldiers and the bus driver were taken to hospital with various injuries.
The military prosecutor's office and the National Police are jointly investigating the accident.
The first nine months of this year saw some 102,800 road accidents in Ukraine, an 8.9-percent increase year on year. A total of 1,996 people lost their lives and more than 21,900 others were injured.
