LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Wednesday turned its probe to the girlfriend of the Las Vegas gunman who killed at least 59 people in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
Marilou Danley was at the FBI's building for questioning as the authorities were trying to probe the killer's motive, according to media reports.
Danley was met by FBI agents at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday night after her return from the Philippines, her home country, according to the City News Service.
Federal agents did not say where Danley went after her arrival in Los Angeles.
She was not arrested and was called "person of interest" by police officers in the mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas.
Video from the scene showed Danley going through the customs in a wheelchair in the wake of landing at the airport after weeks long trip abroad.
Danley, 62, lived with Paddock in Mesquite of Nevada, a town of about 18,000 people located 120 km northeast of Las Vegas.
Paddock encouraged Danley to leave the country before his attack, her sisters were quoted as saying by CNN affiliate Seven Network Australia on Wednesday.
"I know that she don't know anything as well, like us. She was sent away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he's planning," one of Danley's sisters told Seven News from their home in Australia's Gold Coast region.
U.S. law enforcement officials hope that Danley can provide an insight into what led Paddock to carry out his act of massacre.
Paddock, a 64-year-old gambler and real estate investor, rained bullets from a high-floor hotel room of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip into an outdoor music festival with more than 22,000 concertgoers.
Police said they believed he acted alone.
