SARAJEVO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Italian puppet opera "The Troubadour" (Il Trovatore) thrilled adults and children alike Tuesday night with its performance at the Youth Theater here.
In the framework of the 57th International Theater Festival MESS, the adult puppet opera based on one of the most famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi's musicals is produced by the Italian troupe Compagnia Marionettistica Carlo Colla & Figli founded in 1860 in Milan. The company is one of the most recognized puppet theaters in the world, with nearly three centuries of activity, touring five continents.
The puppets tell the tragic love story between Manrico, the troubadour, and Count di Luna as they compete for the love of the woman Leonara. Count captures and tortures Manrico's mother Acuzena after which Leonara offers to marry the count, but ultimately commits suicide. In the end, Acuzena reveals that the troubadour was the Count's long-lost brother.
The puppet show is not only intended for children's enjoyment, director Eugenio Monti Colla explained. With the aid of a puppet, it encourages children to become a future-minded audience and brings children and adults into the world of imagination.
"We do everything that a television cannot, our puppet theater can be moved and happens at any time and space," Monti Colla said.
The puppet opera is a tale for children that holds a poetic intention and at the same time is an illusion and the desire to bring adults back to their childhood.
"What I find very interesting about this performance is the magic that the puppets bring to the audience. I was here with my son who is twelve years old, and I can say it is suitable for children as well," Nejra Kavazovic, a PhD student at the University of Sarajevo told Xinhua.
