MOSCOW, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Russia is ready to cooperate with the United States on the basis of equality, President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

At a ceremony to accept the diplomatic credentials of new foreign ambassadors, including new U.S. envoy to Russia Jon Huntsman, he called the current level of Russia-U.S. relations unsatisfactory.

Russia advocates constructive, predictable and mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, respect of national interests and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, Putin said.

Huntsman, a former governor of Utah, was nominated by President Donald Trump in July as new U.S. ambassador to Russia to replace John Tefft.

Huntsman served as U.S. ambassador to Singapore in the early 1990s and to China from 2009 to 2011.

Putin appointed a new Russian ambassador to the United States in August. Anatoly Antonov replaced Sergei Kislyak, who was mired in allegations of spying and interfering in the 2016 U.S. election.
