PARIS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- An anti-terror investigation has been launched after gas cylinders were found over the weekend in Paris, French media reported late Monday.

The cylinders were found in the early morning of Saturday in front of a building in the city's 16th arrondissement, according to French television channel BFMTV.

One tenant has given the alert after hearing noise in the street. When he left his lodging, he discovered four cylinders, and then called for firemen and police, BFMTV said.

The cylinders were equipped with a firing device, involving a mobile phone. Five arrests were made thereafter, according to the same source.

The investigation was entrusted to the anti-terror section of the Paris Criminal Brigade and the General Directorate for Internal Security.
