BERLIN, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- About 10,000 people were forced to leave their homes on Monday in Berlin after an unexploded 250-kilo WWII bomb was founded in the vicinity, the police said.
The Berlin police said on its twitter account that the bomb was found by construction workers near Innsbrucker Platz in the western of the city.
In a bid to defuse the bomb, the police sealed off the area within a 500-meter radius of the site, in which all houses will presumably be evacuated in the evening. The police called on residents to go to friends and relatives, and provided emergency shelters for evacuated people.
Underground and suburban rail traffic in the area was also disrupted.
Unexploded bombs are found across Germany on a regular basis even more than 70 years have passed after the World War II.
In September over 60,000 people were evacuated in Frankfurt after a 1.8-tonne bomb was discovered.
