NEW DELHI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least four civilians were killed and 15 others wounded Monday in skirmishes between troops of India and Pakistan on Line of Control (LoC) dividing Kashmir, officials said.
Three civilians were killed in Indian-controlled Kashmir, while one on Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Indian officials said the two sides exchanged fire in frontier Poonch district, about 180 km southwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Reports said the firing started at around 7:00 a.m. local time and lasted several hours.
According to Pakistan's state-run broadcaster Radio Pakistan, a civilian was killed and four others wounded due to firing from Indian troops.
On Friday Pakistan army said Indian firing killed two civilians and a trooper on their side.
Over the past two weeks the troops from both sides posted in the frontier locations were targeting each others' positions. The flare up has triggered civilian migrations.
Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating ceasefire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
