ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's army said on Monday that Indian forces' cross-border shelling has killed a civilian and injured four others.

The Indian forces carried out "unprovoked firing" along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir region and targeted civil population, Pakistan's army said in a statement on Monday, adding that "1 civilian M Din embraced Shahadat (martyrdom) while 4 civilians were injured."

Pakistan's army "effectively engaged" Indian posts which were targeting civil population and destroyed two of them, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Ministry summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner and condemned the "unprovoked ceasefire violations" by the Indian forces in Rukh Chakri and Rawalakot Sectors on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 respectively.

A Foreign Ministry's statement said on Monday that three civilians were killed and five others injured in recent Indian forces's cross-border shelling.

"This is the fifth ceasefire violation by the Indian forces in the past twelve days, resulting in the shahadat (martyrdom) of 11 civilians, including 5 women, and injuries to 37 others," the Foreign Ministry statement said.

The Director General of South Asia at the Foreign Ministry, Mohammad Faisal, who summoned the Indian envoy said that the "deliberate targeting of civilians" is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws.

"The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation," he told the Indian envoy, according to the statement.

The director general urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate the incident and other ceasefire violations, and instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC.
