Nikkei rises slightly in morning on Wall Street gains, yen's retreat

TOKYO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark Nikkei stock index inched higher Monday morning as buying was supported by Wall Street's advance late last week and the yen's retreat again the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 20.62 points, or 0.10 percent, from Friday to 20,376.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.77 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,671.98.

Nonferrous metal, insurance and rubber product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
