Indian president appoints new governors

NEW DELHI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indian President Ram Nath Kovind Saturday appointed new governors for the states of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Meghalaya, officials said.

"The President has been pleased to make the following appointments - Satya Pal Malik as Governor of Bihar, Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Tamil Nadu, Jagdish Mukhi as Governor of Assam and Ganga Prasad as Governor of Meghalaya," an official statement read.

"The appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices."

The president has also appointed Devendra Kumar Joshi as Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
