BERLIN, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cologne have signed veteran striker Claudio Pizzaro on a free transfer, the struggling Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Friday.
The "Billy Goats" have reinforced their offense with the signing of former Werder Bremen striker, who has put to paper on a deal until the end of the season.
"Claudio Pizzaro is a striker with a strong finish and a personality that fits perfectly into our team," Cologne's head coach Peter Stoeger told the club's official homepage.
The 39-year-old Peruvian knows the Bundesliga very well as he played for Werder Bremen as well as Bayern Munich. He made overall 430 appearances and provided 191 goals, which is an all-time high for a foreign player.
"Cologne is a club with tradition and I would like to help the club with my qualities and my experience in the current situation," Pizzaro said.
The "Billy Goats" sit currently at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings. They still wait for their first win after suffering five consecutive defeats in a row.
Bottom side Cologne encounter sixth placed Leipzig at the 7th round on Sunday.
