TOKYO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower Friday as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar soured the market mood and weighed on exporter-linked issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 24.68 points, or 0.12 percent lower, from Thursday to 20,338.43.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 3.18 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,672.99.
Oil and coal product, mining and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
