MADRID, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Spain's consumer prices rose by 1.8 percent in September when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to advanced data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by Spain's Statistical Office (INE) on Thursday.

The figure is 0.2 percent higher than that of August, when Spain's consumer prices had risen by 1.6 percent.

According to the INE, this rise was due to higher prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks, items whose prices had fallen in the same month in 2016.

Spain's prices have been rising for 13 months in a row on a year-on-year basis after having registered negative rates for eight consecutive months.

On a month-to-month basis Spain's prices rose by 0.2 percent from August to September.

The INE will confirm this data on Oct. 11 when it will provide more information about the evolution of prices. Enditem
