PHNOM PENH, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Renowned Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann died of natural cause at the age of 91 at his home in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province on Thursday.
"He passed away at 9:45 a.m. (local time) today at his home in Siem Reap province," Molyvann's assistant Choung Chhoeun confirmed to Xinhua.
Molyvann was famous for his designs between 1955 and 1970, the period was known as Cambodia's "Golden Age." His iconic designs included the Independence Monument, the State Palace, the National Olympic Stadium, the Chaktomuk Conference Hall, and Institute of Foreign Languages, among others.
Born in 1926, Molyvann obtained a scholarship to pursue his studies in Paris, France in 1946. After one year of law, he switched to architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and returned to Cambodia in 1956. He was then appointed head of public works and state architect by then-Prince Norodom Sihanouk.
