ABUJA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria is set to exit 90 international organizations which it earlier subscribed to as a way of cutting down its financial obligations to safeguard the nation from possible financial embarrassment.

The government said Wednesday that a committee was working to review the country's membership of such international organizations.

As a result, the west African country will retain 220 out of 310 organizations, said Kemi Adeosun, the nation's minister of finance.

According to Adeosun, the annual commitment by Nigeria to international organizations stands at 70 million U.S. dollars.
