CHANGSHA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Five suspects have been arrested for dumping toxic waste in central China's Hunan Province, local police said Wednesday.

Since August, the suspects had allegedly been paid to transport toxic waste produced by a company based in southern Chinese city of Shenzhen to Yongzhou in Hunan.

Environmental protection authorities said the toxic waste, some 300 tonnes of industrial, medical and household garbage, has not posed any health risk for local residents.

Further investigation is underway.
