Macao holds symposium to discuss going abroad of traditional Chinese medicine

MACAO, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A symposium on international cooperation on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) kicked off in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday morning, focusing on the standardization of TCM and its going into global market.

The two-day event, with a theme of innovation and going into global market, attracted more than 600 representatives from the Chinese mainland, Macao SAR, the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

Leong Vai Tac, secretary of Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR government told the opening ceremony that the Macao SAR government attaches great importance to the industrialization and standardization of TCM.

Leong said the TCM industry is one of important parts of Macao's diversified economy and the SAR government has put much effort and resource into the standardization of TCM and helped it go into global market.

He also mentioned that the SAR government has supported the setting up of a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for TCM in Macao, a key laboratory on the quality research of TCM, and the building of Guangdong and Macao TCM Cooperation Industrial Park.

The delegates will also discuss topics such as deepening of international cooperation, the changing trend of international policy environment for TCM, innovation and industrial upgrading of traditional Chinese medicine.

On the sidelines of the symposium, there will be two round-table meetings and an investment and financing forum.
