NEW DELHI, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Indian Army Wednesday claimed to have killed several militants in a major operation along the border with Myanmar.

In a statement, the Indian Army's Eastern Command said that the operation was carried out by a dozen soldiers early this morning but also made it clear that the troops did not cross the international border.

The operation was carried out against militants belonging to NSCN-Khaplang, a terror outfit which is fighting for a separate state of Nagaland in northeastern India.

"A column of the Indian Army while operating along the Indo-Myanmar border was fired upon by unidentified insurgents. Our troops reacted swiftly and brought down heavy retaliatory fire on the insurgents," the statement said.

There has been no casualty on the Indian side, the Army said.

The operation came two years after the Indian Army had carried out another major operation over the border with Myanmar and eliminated several terror camps operated by Naga militants in the wake of the killing of 20 soldiers in an ambush in Manipur state.
