LUANDA, Sept. 26 (XINHUA) -- Angola's new president Joao Lourenco said Tuesday that in the next five years his government will seek to set the inflation rate within acceptable and controllable limits.

To reach this goal, Lourenco, who addressed the nation for the first time after being inaugurated as president, said he would adopt policies that require imposition of strict rules of exchange and tax policy.

He said he will equally bet on the strengthening of the systems for controlling illegal acts that may discredit the financial and banking sector, both internally and abroad.

The new president will also focus on measures to promote monitoring, supervision and promotion of sectoral activities and to eliminate administrative barriers.

The president also highlighted diversification of the economy, drastic reduction of imports and betting on exports. He also vowed to focus on credit and foreign investment for industry, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, transportation, real estate and other important sectors.

Lourenco was sworn in as the new president on Tuesday, taking over from the longtime leader Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who decided to step down and not run for this year's election.
