JERUSALEM, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian gunman killed three Israeli men and wounded another outside a West Bank settlement on Tuesday morning before he was shot dead by Israeli forces, Israeli police said in a statement.
The shootout took place outside Har Adar, a jewish settlement northwest of Jerusalem.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the assailant arrived at the back gate of the fenced settlement, from which Palestinian laborers cross into Israel to do their daily work.
"When he arrived at the checking post, he pulled out a weapon and opened fire towards a security personnel at the site," said Samri.
Three Israelis, whose identities have not been disclosed, were killed and another man was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
A paramilitary Border Police force in the area opened fire at the assailant and "neutralized" him, a spokesperson with the Border Police said.
The assailant, whose identity was not disclosed, later died of his wounds at the scene, Samri said.
Since September 2015, violent clashes between Palestinians and Israelis have claimed the lives of at least 293 Palestinians, 48 Jewish Israelis, two U.S. nationals, a British tourist and two African asylum seekers.
