SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people including two policemen and a paramilitary trooper were wounded in a grenade blast Sunday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade blast took place in Sopore town of Baramulla district, about 48 km northwest of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Reports said militants hurled a grenade inside a bullet proof vehicle of police, however a policemen inside the vehicle threw it out immediately, resulting in its blast on road.

"Alert special police officer (SPO) throws away grenade to safer place which was hurled inside security force vehicle thus saving lives of dozen police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel," a police spokesman said. "Two policemen and CRPF man suffered minor wounds."

Meanwhile, civilians wounded in the attack were immediately taken to government medical facility in the town.

"Four civilians were brought here for treatment and all of them are stable," a health official at sub-district hospital Sopore said.

So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerilla war with Indian troops in the region since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently. At times militants target police and paramilitary through grenades.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
