CARACAS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump's recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly could "endanger" global stability, Venezuelan observers said.
"It is generating a global phenomenon of arms race and mistrust with the United States and European countries. And it is creating chaos in the field of global investment," political observer Luis Delgado Arria told Xinhua.
Speaking at the General Debate of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump said "our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been ... we can no longer be taken advantage of, or enter into a one-sided deal where the United States gets nothing in return."
He also warned that the United States "will have no choice than to totally destroy" the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) unless Pyongyang refrains from its nuclear tests and missile launches, and called Venezuela a "socialist dictatorship."
Washington's "only real argument is military might, nuclear power, intervention," Arria said, adding that "Trump is following the same policies as other U.S. presidents ... policies with catastrophic results."
William Serafino, a political analyst, said he agreed with Arria that Trump's speech was potentially destructive.
He said that Washington's demonstration of strength reveals its lack of power to achieve those objectives.
That weakness "is compensated with ... a narrative that keeps afloat the possibility of a clash with strategic rivals," said Serafino.
The world is witnessing an increasingly militarized U.S. foreign policy, for example its intervention in Venezuela, he said.
Trump's UN speech was "paving the way for raising the 'Venezuelan problem' at the UN Security Council, as what the country did to Libya and Syria," said Serafino.
