HANOI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The 11th Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum within Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017 kicked off in Vietnam's central Nghe An province on Thursday, seeking better information technology applications and closer regional cooperation on disaster risk reduction.

Delegates to the two-day forum on Thursday centered their discussions on seeking more effective solutions for information infrastructure operation in natural disaster risk reduction, innovating science and technology to prevent natural disasters such as landslides, floods and typhoons, and fostering cooperation in the innovation.

The delegates agreed that APEC members should have overall plans for disaster reduction and embed natural disaster prevention and control in socioeconomic development plans of authorities at various levels, sectors and localities.

On Friday, the delegates will make recommendations on closer cooperation for promoting and innovating science and technology in APEC cooperation on preventing and coping with natural disasters.
