KIEV, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian authorities have developed a fresh roadmap to push forward the country's cooperation with the European Union (EU), Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced on Thursday.

In a video address to the Ukrainian Financial Forum, Poroshenko said that the plan is aimed at Ukraine's integration into the EU's customs union, aviation space, digital market, and energy union.

"Through this strategy, we will come as close as possible to the criteria for the membership in the EU," Poroshenko said.

He said that the initiative could be a supplement to the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement that came into the full force earlier this month.

The agreement, which includes a free trade deal and a broad range of legislation and regulation topics, was signed in June 2014 and some parts of the treaty have been provisionally applied since November 2014.

EU officials repeatedly said that the prospects for Ukraine's joining the block were not on the agenda because the country now did not meet political, legal and economic criteria for the membership.
