MANILA -- The Philippine military has put over 1,000 soldiers on standby in case some groups try to disrupt the rally scheduled on Thursday to commemorate the martial law that former President Ferdinand Marcos imposed in 1972.

Military spokesman Col. Vic Tomas said on Wednesday that the soldiers are on call to help the police in maintaining peace and order when some 10,000 protesters are expected to take to the streets on Thursday, a day Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared as a "national day of protest." DHAKA -- A massive fire has razed a multi-storey textile factory in a central Bangladesh district, killing six people and injuring several others.

Fire official Ziaur Rahman told Xinhua that the blaze started in the four-storey Ideal Textile factory at about 9:57 a.m. local time in Munshiganj district, some 27 km southeast of capital Dhaka. (Bangladesh-Fire)

JAKARTA -- An official at monitoring post for Gunung Agung volcano in Indonesia's resort Island of Bali has warned people to be alert as authorities have been preparing for evacuation.

Gunung Agung volcano in Karang Asem district has showed a rise in seismic activity recently, prompting the country's volcanology agency to increase its alert status to the second highest level on Monday night, with extension of dangerous zone to 7.5 km in the north, south, southeast and southwest of the volcano, according to head of mitigation department of the agency Devy Kamil Syahbana. PHNOM PENH -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan met here on Wednesday with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and they agreed to cement bilateral cooperation and party-to-party exchanges.

NAY PYI TAW -- Myanmar government will resettle refugees displaced at home and abroad due to conflicts in the country's northern Rakhine state, said U Win Myat Aye, minister of social welfare, relief and resettlement on Wednesday.

The local people in the affected areas by the recent attack on Aug. 25 are being provided with humanitarian aid without any discrimination, the minister said, adding that at present, the authorities are increasing more humanitarian aid to reach all areas in Rakhine state with the help of donor countries and organizations.
