BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- As an additional security measure during the Golden Jubilee celebration of Brunei's Sultan's accession to the throne, the whole of Brunei Muara District is declared as a restricted airspace from Oct. 5-7, according to local media on Wednesday.

Brunei's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said only authorised aircraft, including drones, are allowed to be operated during the restriction period.

Director of Civil Aviation Mohammad Nazri urged the public, including private organizations to fully comply with the temporary security measure, adding that failure to do so is an offence under the Civil Aviation Order 2006.

According to DCA, any application made from Sept. 28 to Nov. 3 for the use of drones from private individuals or organizations will not be processed and will not be authorized.

Acting Director of Operation, Royal Brunei Police Force, Haji Chipli said that should the unauthorized flying of drones or unmanned aircraft occur above the restricted airspace during the stated period, the operator of the aircraft will be detained and interrogated.

The year 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's accession to the throne. The country is preparing a series of grand celebrations for the Golden Jubilee in October.
