RIYADH, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday to donate 15 million U.S. dollars for the Rohingya refugees fleeing from Myanmar, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The aid is part of a series of programs to assist the Rohingya refugees, especially projects that will help them to be financially independent, said Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah, the General Supervisor of Riyadh-based King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid (KSRelief).

A crackdown by Myanmar's army, launched in response to attacks by Rohingya militants on Aug. 25, has pushed vast numbers of refugees from the Muslim minority across the border.

The violence has incubated a humanitarian crisis on both sides of the border and put intense global pressure on Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
