VIENTIANE, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- As more foreign companies open factories in special economic zones (SEZs) in Laos, the government anticipates that several thousand jobs will be created for Lao nationals in the near future.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has recently unveiled the government's target to attract investment by 140 companies in SEZs in 2018, which should generate over 4,150 jobs for the local people, reported Vientiane Times on Tuesday.

The government is committed to ensuring that industrial growth creates as many jobs for the Lao people as possible so that Laos can benefit from the inflow of foreign investment.

Currently, there are 12 SEZs in Laos. About 352 companies from Laos and overseas have invested in these zones, with a total registered capital of 8 billion U.S. dollars.
