YANGON -- Myanmar government has allocated an additional fund of 20 billion kyats (14.7 million U.S. dollars) to urgently repair the damaged portion of the border fence with Bangladesh and build it into an upgraded and secured one, said a press release of the President's Office late Monday.

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is gearing up to dissolve the lower house of parliament and call a snap general election, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Toshihiro Nikai confirmed on Tuesday.

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- Police have arrested a police officer on charge of shifting a Taliban commander from a war affected area to safer place in Takhar province, provincial police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir said Tuesday.

"A police officer was attempting to shift Taliban commander Mawlawi Lal from Khawjaghar district to Yangi Qala district in his car but fortunately was identified and arrested by police in a checkpoint on Monday," Asir told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban) Enditem
