XIAMEN, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Industrial and Development Organization (UNIDO) on Monday certified a "green industrial park," the fifth in China.

The title was given to Quanzhou economic and technological development park in east China's Fujian Province, a local light industry hub, cluttered with manufacturers of clothes, shoes, digital devices, machinery and medicine.

UNIDO's green industrial park refers to a new type of industrial park, which uses closed materials circulation, multistage energy use and waste minimization to maximize the efficiency of resources and energy utilization, and minimize pollutants generated from the industrial production source.

"The certification will help improve environment in the region and set an example for making the transition from intensive industry-led economy to greener growth models," said Lin Jinming, a senior Quanzhou official.

Since 2012, the UNIDO has certified four such parks in Urumqi, Zhangye, Lianyungang and Yantai.
