RAMALLAH, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday he was satisfied with Islamic Hamas movement's earlier decision to take practical steps towards achieving internal reconciliation.

Abbas, who arrived in New York for joining the UN annual General Assembly meetings, said in an official statement that he was satisfied with Hamas' declaration in Cairo to reconcile.

Earlier on Sunday, Hamas leaders, who have been holding talks with senior Egyptian security intelligence officials, said in an official statement that they were ready to make reconciliation with Abbas Fatah Party.

Hamas announced earlier that it had dissolved an administrative committee to manage the daily affairs in Gaza. The forming of the committee has outraged Abbas, who insisted that it should be resolved in order to resume the dialogue with Hamas.

Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since seizing control of it in 2007, has expressed readiness to receive the Palestinian consensus government in Gaza and to allow it to work properly.

Leaders of the Hamas-run administrative committee in Gaza also said that they were ready to fully cooperate with the consensus government and to hand over the Gaza Strip affairs.

Spokesman of the consensus government in Ramallah Yousef al-Mahmoud said that the government was fully prepared to go to the Gaza Strip immediately and to take over the coastal enclave.

According to Abbas official statement, he said he would convene a meeting of the Palestinian leaderships in Ramallah as soon as he gets back from the United States.

Hamas expressed readiness to participate in general elections after the formation of a unity government, in coordination with other Palestinian factions and political powers.
