COLOMBO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan naval forces on Friday found the body of a 25-year-old Briton who had been dragged away by a crocodile in a muddy lagoon in Panama, around 360 km east of capital Colombo.

A police spokesman told Xinhua that an investigation into the death had been launched after the victim's friends alerted the police on Thursday afternoon.

The victim, Paul McClean, along with a group of his friends was on holiday in Sri Lanka and had visited the beach in Panama.

He had then wandered away to find a toilet when he stumbled into an area known to be infested with crocodiles.

The police said that a post mortem examination would be conducted.

According to British media, McClean was a journalist who worked for the Financial Times in Britain.
