FRANKFURT, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the 67th Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) on Thursday.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Merkel said the show opens a window to the future of electric, connected and autonomous mobility.

The ten-day show took place at a time when German major carmakers are stuck in the emissions scandal.

"A lot of trust has been destroyed. That is why the automotive industry must do everything to win back confidence, in its own interest and that of employees and German industry," Merkel said on the occasion.

Theming "Future now", the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 focuses on digitization, urban mobility and electric mobility. Around 1,000 exhibitors from 39 countries all over the world come with new products and technologies.

According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the number of premieres sets a new record this year: 363 innovations including 228 world premieres, 64 European premieres, 32 German premieres and 39 research studies.

IAA is one of the largest mobility shows in the world. It is held every two years.
