Kenyan bourse key indices swell as stocks rise

NAIROBI, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- All the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) indices registered positive gains as prices of various stocks across the board swelled Tuesday.

The NSE 20 Share Index gained 33.74 points to stand at 3,849.45 points while the All Share Index (NASI) ended 0.44 points higher to stand at 166.76. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Share Index added 3.82 points to stand at 4,333.37.

Similarly, turnover rose to 11 million U.S. dollars from the previous session's 10 million dollars, with the number of shares traded rising to 32 million shares against 30 million on Monday.

Safaricom, in the telecom sector, was the most actively traded share after moving 15 million shares valued at between 0.25 dollars and 0.27 dollars.

The banking sector accounted for 27 percent of the day's traded value. Equity Bank actively moved 3.9 million shares valued at 0.38 dollars, followed by Kenya Commercial Bank, which remained unchanged at 0.42 dollars and moved 1.6 million shares.

Cooperative Bank went down some cents to trade at 0.16 dollars as it transacted 1.6 million shares.

KenolKobil had 3.7 million shares transacted at 0.16 dollars to clinch the second position at the bourse during the trading.

The bond market continued to witness improved activity with securities worth 21 million dollars transacted compared to 17 million dollars posted previous session. Enditem
