SYDNEY, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Pubs, breweries and businesses around the world are raising their glasses to an Australian innovator on Tuesday, who has developed a hi-tech sensor that can tell when a beer keg is about to run out.

Created by homebrewer Michael Burton and his newly formed company Binary Beer Technology, the idea came to life with the help of the University of Wollongong's iAccelerate digital living laboratory at the institute's SMART Infrastructure facility.

"When you are working at a busy pub, with dozens of people waiting at the bar and the keg runs out, it's a nightmare!" Bar Manager Henry Gye, at one of Sydney's premier live music venues, The Oxford Art Factory, told Xinhua on Tuesday.

"I think having a device like that would be awesome."

The creation has also the ability track the temperature of the keg and how long the beer has been at that temperature.

This feature will indicate to sellers when the beer goes stale.

But the most innovative aspect of the device will allow it to be linked to an app that will measure the level of beer left in the keg and automatically alert the brewery to deliver more.

The beer breakthrough will mean bars and pubs will never run dry.

Binary Beer are now in talks with two of the world's largest beer companies -- Heineken and Anheuser-Busch.

"I am quite certain this is going to be a game changer," Burton told local media.
