DOHA, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's Foreign Minister condemned the illegal siege by the Saudi-led quartet against his country, insisting that the Gulf crisis will only be solved through dialogue, Qatar's state news agency (QNA) reported Monday.

Speaking at a UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that the blockade by the four Arab countries violates international law and human rights, so the United Nations needs to take action against it, QNA said.

On June 5, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing the latter of financing terrorism and destabilizing the region.

Qatar has strongly rejected the allegations.

"The real motives behind the siege and the cutting of diplomatic relations with Qatar were not fighting terrorism, but rather to force Qatar into a state of trusteeship to interfere in its foreign policy, to undermine its sovereignty and to interfere in its domestic policy," the foreign minister added.

Al-Thani stressed that Qatar reaffirms its position in rejecting and condemning terrorism in all its forms, whatever the cause and motives are.

His comments came after Saudi vowed on Sunday to keep pressuring Qatar to agree on the list of demands put forward by the Arab bloc.

The Saudi move came just two days after U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Qatar Emir and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince to solve the crisis.
