OSLO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Norway's four centre-right parties led by Prime Minister Erna Solberg's Conservative Party would retain their majority in the new parliament, the first official projections after the polls showed on Monday.
The ruling Labor Party and Progress Party and their allies, the Christian Democratic Party and the Liberal Party, would win 86 seats in the 169-seat parliament, the Norwegian Directorate of Elections projected based on a count of 39.5 percent of the votes.
A total of 4,437 candidates from 24 political parties or groups would compete for the 169 seats in the Norwegian parliament.
About 3,750,000 Norwegians were eligible to vote in the election. Polls began at 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) and was closed at 9 p.m. (1900 GMT) on Monday. Some local municipalities already extended the voting by opening the polling stations on Sunday.
